Interiors: Yellow & Grey Living Room

This-8

As I’ve previously mentioned, we recently started to update our living room using grey as our back canvas.

Since then, to inject a little colour and added interest to the room I’ve opted for tones of yellow in accent accessories and furnishings which have really brightened and livened up the room.

I must say, I’ve never really been a ‘yellow‘ kind of person, but at the moment I really can’t get enough of it.

It’s such a sunny colour and brings with it a natural glow of happiness, reflecting the outside natural elements.

Also, commonly associated with warmth, knowledge and wisdom, happiness and vitality, it supposedly promotes memory, decision-making and good judgement.

All rather splendid for a fresh spring-time overhaul of both living environment and mind, don’t you think?

So, we started by freshening up the walls from their originally rather dull and washed out magnolia-cream to an altogether lighter and brighter plain white.

Next we changed the awful orange-brown carpet to one of a silvery-slate grey, which to be honest was more of a practical decision than anything else, as it really hides any little spillages or stains. In addition, the one we opted for can even be bleach-cleaned (though I’ve not yet been brave enough, nor really had the need to try this out!), altogether making it the perfect option for a household of little ones with sticky fingers and bigger ones (my husband) with big clumsy feet!

We then chose the Next Stamford Belgian Soft Twill in Mid Grey sofas. Again a little on the plain side, so the plan was to dress it up with more vibrant throws and cushions.

Of our accent pieces, I am TOTALLY loving our beautiful yellow and grey John Lewis Curtains (see below for link), which I’ve had just so many complements on already!  I’m particularly loving the throwback to the 70’s vibe with the geometric print!

Although there is the capacity to have these fully drawn there is no blackout lining so you can imagine how the light still streams through from outside.  The thing is though, my plan was never to use them as everyday curtains if you will, as instead I had always planned for these to just be dress curtains, to frame a wide-slat, wooden venetian blind, again, something we’ve just purchased.

And we love these also! Together they look really smart in our bright bay window.

I love the fact that just by using accent colours here and there, any room is super-duper easy to update as and when the seasons change, if you just feel in the need of a bit of a spruce up or even if you just have change your mind!

So, although we’ve bought a few of these fab items already, here are some of the others I’ve got my eye on or which I just thought were rather fun!!

What beautiful colouring – I love the yellow and grey together. I love yellow and always worried it would look a bit garish but this is perfect. Thank you for linking to #PoCoLo x

I love the yellow and grey combo! And those curtains are fantastic. We have a grey and duck egg blue kinda deal but I had splashes of red in winter and am starting to swap those for splashes of yellow in spring. It really lifts the place! #PoCoLo

We are going to be painting soon. Just need to get that well deserved pay cheque! hehe I have yet to decide which colour though, I don’t wan’t anything too light because all the little people keep leaving dark marks from hands, so I’m going to try and get something semi neutral, but also good for not spotting a dirty mark the moment you gaze at it! haha

No updating going on chez moi right now and without getting rid of everything I own I could never just have a few accent colours as I already have every colour under the sun!!! I do love those curtains though.
