So, yesterday was summer solstice.
And if I’m honest, I was meant to post this yesterday but was just so busy with other bits and pieces taking up my day that I was naughty and in the end just totally forgot!
So, the longest day of the year, where from here on in the days start to get shorter again, as we approach autumn and winter.
Ok, ok… that’s way off!
The kids haven’t even broken up for summer holidays yet!
So, instead of seeing the glass half empty, I thought I’d embrace the fact that summer is officially here and that we’ve got a while yet to make the most of it, so decided to share just a few things with you as to the reasons I both love and loath summertime……
Reasons I love summer
bare feet
bbqs
outdoor adventures with the girls
holidays
outdoor pub lunches
light, balmy evenings
pretty flowers
sunkissed skin
paddling pools and bare bottoms (the kids’, not ours!!)
happy smiling faces
fresh cut grass
warm sunshine
picnics
al fresco dining with friends
flip flops
long walks
pimms
waterfights
Things that spoil it for me!…….
hayfever and the pollen count
sweat patches
bare skin and bingo wings
sunburn and strap marks
lack of babysitters as they’re all on holiday
frizzy hair reminiscent of a bad perm
holiday traffic and caravans
mosquitos
wasps
And,I could really do with that rather controversial or elusive ‘thigh gap’ about now, as the tops of my legs rub when I’m hot and sticky!!
Linking up with Debs at Super Busy Mum for the Mad Mid Week Blog Hop
My friend calls it chub rub! 🙂 Lovely list of summer things, but 20 weeks today is Xmas eve! arghhhh xxxx
Hahahahaha! Chub Rub! Love it – Totally going to use that! Unless of course I manage to get the thigh gap!! Not holding up much hope though!! Especially after just having had an ice lolly and watching Bake Off!! xx
My hair also hates the heat as do my thighs! I do however love bbqs and being able to have my back door and all windows open daily #mmwbh
Haha. I’m sorry – but I’m glad I’m not the only one who ends up looking like from Monica from Friends when she holidayed in the Bahamas!! Everything has its good and bad eh?!? xx
Hello there, loving Pimms and pink wine is very popular in our house also! I think I would add to our list the trauma of applying sunscreen to a very resistant toddler-though so far this year is better than last! xxx #mummyslittlemonkey
Ooooh – yummy! Love pink wine too! And anything with bubbles also! Good point about the sun cream! H is ok now with that, but E is a different matter entirely! And sun cream in beaches! Now that should also feature perhaps!!! Xx
O yes, I would definitely second bubbles as well! Sun cream and sand-a challenging combination! xxx
Bubbbles all the way eh!!! Especially with the sun shining!! xx
Love Pimms too! And also hate the holiday traffic and caravans, especially where we live in North Cornwall. We always find ourselves stuck behind a huge caravan in a very narrow road :(, not to mention the huge tourist buses!
Pimms is great isn’t it! Gin and Tonic also fits the bill most days too!! 🙂
Yes to G&Ts in the summer too 😉
