My Sunday Photo | 29 February 15

My Sunday Photo today is a bit of a household favourite.

It was taken back on on our safari to Kwandwe Private Game Reserve in South Africa.

I have always been a lover of all creatures great and small – so there really could have been no better way to spend our first break away together, without the children, just Mikey and I on our own as a couple.

But we particularly love this photo.  We really couldn’t have asked these delightful rhino to pose for the camera any better!!  All beautifully lined up and looking directly at the camera!

But what’s also special to us is the moment it represented and the memory we hold of the when we took it.

It was magical – to share such a wonderful moment with animals under the threat of human greed and in some cases, need.

These were four young males who, as with all rhinos are a little short sighted – so the way in which they came together and headed directly for our jeep to check us out was a truly exhilarating experience.

Luckily these boys are protected as much as can be by the dedicated staff who look out for them, but whilst on our jeep ride earlier that morning, we did find what looked like ‘marker stones’ near to where a mother and baby had made their home.

They are such beautiful and serene creatures.

I only hope my grandchildren get a chance to see them too.

Amazing photo. Love it in B&W. So sad that they’re endangered.

Ahh, when we went on safari we didn’t get to see rhinos.

They were fabulous. We saw both kinds. The thing we didn’t see was a large male lion. It just means we’ll all have to do another one!!!
