Is Daddy invisible?

Well no, of course he isn’t.

(But how cool would that be eh!! I could show him off at all those odd shows and fairs and make money out of him!)

Only joking!

But anyway, the reason for my title is that in our little household, you could well and truly believe that he was invisible to our girls, when it comes to them wanting anything!

Do you know, Mr B could be sat right next to H on the sofa, and she could even be cuddling up to him, yet she would get up, and toddle upstairs to find me just to announce that she is hungry!!!

Ummm, H?

Did you not just want to ask Daddy seeing as he was sat right next to you?!?!?

Or, I go outside to hang up the clothes in the back garden (our laundry! – I don’t use our back garden as a general wardrobe) having left the kids upstairs with Daddy, yet only two minutes later, H is by my side again,..

Mummy?

Yes H?

I’m thirsty!

We could all be sitting watching TV together in the living room, however if I get up to go upstairs, cleverly remembering to shut the gate behind me, all I can hear are grumblings and mumblings and whimpers coming from the bottom of the stairs.

And there they both are – H and Little E both sat on the bottom step looking back up at me from behind the bars!!

Now that’s what you call a naughty step!!

Again, I disappear off upstairs quickly in the thought of having 5 minutes to myself in which to have a shower, leaving a perfectly capable and loveable Daddy in charge downstairs, but oh no – here she is again…

Mummy – I need a poo poo!!

So out I pop of the shower, sopping wet with dripping water and wet footprints all over the carpet, to quickly holler down the stairs at Mr B to come up and help her!

I’ve even had both of them sat with me whilst on the toilet in the past!!!!

E has actually sat on my lap, while H has pulled up a stool and asked for a story or to sing some songs!!

And all the while, Mr B is happily led on the sofa playing Candy Crush, Clash of Clans or Farmville on the iPad! Or watching Sky Sport!

Proof!!! He’s playing games again whilst I sort out crumpets!! Naughty Mr B!

Now although I love the fact that they obviously both love their mummy very much and just can’t bear to be without me even for a split second, it does become a little grating sometimes in that I really don’t get a moments peace.

And yes – perhaps it is all my fault for letting them get away with doing it in the first place,
I’ve made my bed and possibly I’m now having to lie in it!

And although I would never let them get away with being naughty or panda to their tantrums, or pick them up at the first sign of a cry, I suppose I have generally been the ‘go to’ in our household for that extra little bit of sympathy and understanding or a loving cuddle.

And I’m not saying that Mr B isn’t sympathetic or caring, as he is – but in his own way!

And he can ‘zone out’ easily too!

We can all be sat together again, and honestly , the kids could be running riot and squirting each ofther with paint guns and he wouldn’t even notice as he just becomes engrossed and emersed in whatever it is he’s doing!

A-ha – perhaps they come to me then because I actually listen and know a bit of what they’re up to!

And I expect I do give in to things easier!

In the past it’s largely been me who gets up and fetches them drinks or a snack, or that I’m the first to jump if they need the loo or have just sneezed all over their faces; and they’ve just come to regard this as the norm.

Or maybe it stems from the fact that I have been off with them for longer – through my maternity leave?

I don’t know. And I don’t really want to complain either – as, at the end of the day, they are my babies and I love them unconditionally whether they pester me or not, I suppose in the meantime I may just have to put more stair gates in!!

And I don’t know how they’re both going to cope this weekend without me, as I’m away in Center Parks with my girlfriends….

………and that’s some distance for a three year old and a one year old to travel if they need a wee!!!

That sounds so sweet that they follow you around like that. I worked as a nanny in my teens and remember the kids getting so used to me that they would look for me on my days off. I lived in the house so wasn’t easy to ignore their calls :-). I am expecting my first one now, and I better put some routine in place with my husband from day one. 🙂

Aww congratulations on expecting your first!! It sounds like you will be a totally awesome mummy, who yep, it sounds as though the same will happen to you.!! we try for routines here – but I’m afraid we’re either not very good at them or they just don’t work!! Good luck with yours!! xxx

This is fantastic. Buddy can’t talk yet but he has definitely mastered following (or as I like to call it, stalking) me at every given opportunity!

I think ‘stalking’ is spot on and pretty much sums it all up!!!!! xx
